Experts will review a report released by a Congressional panel calling for improvements.
The Senate Commerce Committee will hold a hearing on Wednesday with the panel of experts that released a report in February that was critical of Boeing’s safety culture.
Congress mandated that this expert panel compile this report after two previous fatal Boeing 737 crashes, one in Indonesia in 2018 and the other in Ethiopia in 2019. Officials recently completed this review of Boeing’s safety culture, which found fault with the company’s policies on multiple fronts and described “a lack of awareness of safety-related metrics at all levels of the organization.”
The expert panel also cited an “inadequate and confusing implementation of the components of a positive safety culture.”
Three members of this panel who will provide testimony before the Senate Commerce Committee’s hearing on Wednesday include Tracy Dillinger, a NASA specialist on safety culture; Javier de Luis, an aeronautics expert at MIT; and Najmedin Meshkati, a University of Southern California professor and authority on aviation safety.
